The name comes from the decor of the attached courtyard.
"It had these pink accents all around it, and the bird was the first thing that came to mind," Lee says. "When we were choosing the name, we decided to stick with it."
He says the slogan for the business, "Find Your Flock," is a nod to the owners wanting to create a space where people and groups in Jackson can come and network with others and just hang out.
"We hope that new connections can be made between people in the city here," Lee says.
On Oct. 6, the venue held its grand opening, which featured music from local artists such as James Crow and the Jackson Jackals.
The Flamingo also hosts a mostly weekly happy hour that has featured themes such as "Trappy Hour" and "Indie Rap Happy Hour." FLEET, a group for local creatives, hosted the event on Nov. 16, and Lee says the owners hope to have other groups do the same in the future.
In addition to music, Lee says that he and the owners want The Flamingo to be a space that showcases the talents of Mississippi visual artists. The Flamingo will also participate in events such as Fondren After 5 and Jackson Indie Music Week. The space is available to rent for parties, book signings and other events.
"We have a lot of ideas in mind for the space, including doing some more art shows and concerts," he says. "We've hosted a few things here in the past (such as Land vs Ocean), and we just plan to bring something different to Fondren."
