In 2008, the 31-year-old owner of Quan's Beauty Boutique and Brandon graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology from Millsaps College and planned to attend medical school. But Sims' plans shifted, and she began working as a director for the 1 Campus, 1 Community Program at Millsaps—a community-outreach program for local schools and hospitals—only to realize that working a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. job was not the right fit for her.
Sims' lifelong interest in fashion and beauty led her to create the blueprint for Quan's Beauty Boutique in 2014. The store opened in April 2015.
Her beauty supply store offers everything from virgin hair (a type of extension) for all ethnicities to natural hair-care products to wigs and more.
She also goes above and beyond the call of duty for her customers. "If there is something that they're looking for, and I don't carry it in the store, I order it for them to purchase," the businesswoman says.
Sims is currently working to expand her brand by recently joining the Rodan-Fields Company as a skin-care consultant. She believes everyone should have the strength to follow their dreams and says she is no longer afraid to fail.
"If you have a dream, don't sit on it," she says. "There is always a lesson in failure."
