[Verbatim Release] JACKSON, MISS. November 6, 2008 - The Mississippi Main Street Association’s 2009 Board of Directors retreatedto the capital city of Jackson October 28-30 to finalize the association’s strategic plans for 2009.

The 2009 Board officer slate is as follows: Chuck Ueltschey, Mississippi Power Company, is Board President; Randy Burchfield, Bancorp South, is Board President-elect and Treasurer; and Suzanne Smith, Renasant Bank, is Chairman and immediate Past President.

Take a Tour of Farish, King Edward

Local rap artist, activist and now developer Kamikaze is conducting semi-monthly tours of the Farish Street District and the King Edward renovation. E-mail kamikaze601@hotmail.com to get on the waiting list for tours. Downtown Jackson Partners is renting the Fondren Trolley to move people around the downtown venues.

For many urban planners and economic developers, the “Rise of the Creative Class” by Professor Richard Florida is a bible of sorts. The book, first published in 2002 and updated in 2003, put substance to the notion that the most significant change driving American culture today is “the rise of human creativity as the key factor in our economy and society.”
